Peace Fellowship Awarded To University Of Toronto Student

Jamie LevinTORONTO, ON—[April 20, 2009]—Canadian Friends of Peace Now  (CFPN) has
awarded its Peace Fellowship, in the amount of $4,000, to University of Toronto
Ph.D. student Jamie Levin, it was announced today. 
 
CFPN offers the fellowship annually to a deserving doctoral student at any Canadian
university, or to a deserving Canadian doctoral student at any foreign university, whose
research is consistent with the mission, goals and values of Peace Now, in particular its
advocacy of a Palestinian-Israeli peace based upon mutual recognition, a secure, viable
state for the Palestinians and a secure, Jewish state for the Israelis.
 
Mr. Levin is in his second year of the Ph.D. program, studying International Relations and Political Theory.  His research interests include the political economy of the Israeli-Palestinian Oslo peace process.  “In my studies, I intend to explore how and why the Oslo Peace Accords failed,” said Mr. Levin.  “Specifically, my research seeks to examine the ramifications that different conceptions of sovereignty have had on the conflict.”
 
Born and raised in Ottawa, Mr. Levin has a B.A. Honours from Trent University in Peterborough, ON and an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics.  During 2004-07, he was Executive Director of New York-based Ameinu, formerly the Labor Zionist Alliance.  During 2000-02, he was National Director of the Habonim Dror youth movement.
